how do i setup a scroll wheel mouse in xfree86 4.0.x?

if it is a ps/2 mouse, set it up just like a normal 3 button ps/2 mouse, but use protocol imps/2, instead of ps/2, this allows it to read the scroll whell events. then add "Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"" to the pointer section of your xfree86 config file. this tells it to map the motion on the zaxis(the wheel) to buttons 4 and 5. here is my config section:
